Sierra Leone’s telecoms users to benefit from $100 million US investment

U.S Ambassador to Sierra Leone,  Maria E. Brewer  hosted a specially convened meeting  at the U.S Embassy in Freetown and it was disclosed during the meeting that mobile phone service provider – Africell, has secured  a $100 million financing agreement with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). The money  will be used to expand Africell’s operations in The Gambia, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda. Read more

Wartburg College students receive grant to help communities in Africa

Two student led projects at Wartburg College have each received $10,000 as part of the Davis Projects for Peace grants to help communities in Namibia and Sierra Leone.

“I am super excited to actually go home and give back to a community that I have lived in,” Sophomore Saffa Bockarie said. “The place I come from, they do so much of agricultural acclivity and connecting that to Iowa I say is something that I am very thankful for.” Read more
